The Sparta Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Baraboo by a score of 64-61. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sparta has scored all season.
Sparta's loss came despite strong showings from Gavin Rhead and Thomas Laufenberg. Rhead dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Laufenberg dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Rhead's sixth in a row with at least ten points. John Rice was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Sparta bumped their record down to 2-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Baraboo, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sparta will challenge Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Baraboo is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Mount Horeb at 7:15 p.m. on December 19th. Mount Horeb knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Baraboo likes a good challenge.
