Baseball Recap: Mathis Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mathis had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Odem Owls as they made off with a 13-6 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-5 on Tuesday.

Mathis let Duke Bernal and Juriah Garcia run wild. Bernal went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Garcia went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits Bernal has posted since back in April of 2025. Chris Veliz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Mathis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Mathis' record now sits at 3-5. As for Odem, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mathis will face off against Aransas Pass at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Odem, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on George West at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
