St. John's is 8-2 against Gonzaga since November of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The St. John's Cadets will head out on the road to face off against the Gonzaga Eagles at 2:00 p.m. St. John's is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
St. John's and DeMatha (ranked 64 and 52 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. St. John's took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of DeMatha two weeks ago. The matchup was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but St. John's was just barely outscored by DeMatha in the second.
Despite their loss, St. John's saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isaiah French, who threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Jason Woods, who picked up 125 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga was the victim of a tough 28-6 loss at the hands of Our Lady of Good Counsel on Saturday. It was the first time this season that Gonzaga let down their fans at home.
St. John's has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Gonzaga, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
St. John's beat Gonzaga 22-13 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. John's since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
