KIPP Navigate College Prep has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the University Prep Academy Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
On Tuesday, KIPP Navigate College Prep came up short against Luis Valdez Leadership Academy and fell 42-32.
Despite the defeat, KIPP Navigate College Prep saw an underclassman step up: Isaiah Hernandez scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Derrick Tran, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, University Prep Academy came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 45-33 win over Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but University Prep Academy was the better team in the second half.
Noah Berhe was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 14 points. Mathias Woodaj was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
KIPP Navigate College Prep bumped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for University Prep Academy, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
