The East Hartford Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 52-36 to Southington. East Hartford was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Southington apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Southington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Roxy Cardillo led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five steals. Cardillo hasn't dropped below three steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Cooper, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
East Hartford's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Southington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Hartford won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Tolland at 5:15 p.m. on February 8th. East Hartford is facing Tolland at the right time seeing as Tolland is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Southington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Simsbury at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Southington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday.
