The Mercy School Institute Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 30-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of ASTEC Charter. If Mercy School Institute hoped to take revenge for the 28-24 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Despite the loss, Mercy School Institute saw an underclassman step up: Lujayn Alkalani scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alkalani has scored all season.
Mercy School Institute's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.2 points per game. As for ASTEC Charter, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.
Mercy School Institute will head out on the road to face off against Wesleyan Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wesleyan Christian is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. ASTEC Charter will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Oklahoma School for the Deaf at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
