Burroughs is 1-9 against Apple Valley since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Burros will square off against the Sun Devils at 3:15 p.m. Burroughs has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Burroughs couldn't beat Oak Hills on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Burros came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 24-7.
Lorrain Gamble was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Reyna Bojorquez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Apple Valley got themselves on the board against Granite Hills on Monday, but Granite Hills never followed suit. They blew past the Cougars 14-0. The Sun Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Brynne Johnson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Gentile, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooke Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Apple Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Apple Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Burroughs, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burroughs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
