The Platte Canyon Huskies had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight last Friday. They breezed by Middle Park on the road to the tune of 46-6. The result was nothing new for Platte Canyon, who have now won seven contests by 25 points or more so far this season.
Platte Canyon had a senior duo take command as Sam Patterson rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns and Kamron Skouge rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Patterson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Middle Park to a paltry 128 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Platte Canyon's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Ian Twaddell and his 3.5 sacks.
Platte Canyon's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Sheridan and 1-8 Center (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 19.4% over those games). As for Middle Park, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Platte Canyon will be playing at home against Strasburg at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Strasburg has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 245 points over their last four games. As for Middle Park, they will head out on the road to face off against Clear Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clear Creek is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
