On Friday, Denton was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 57-53 to Summer Creek. While losing is never fun, Denton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Summer Creek is ranked 132nd).
Denton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ethan Sheats, who scored 22 points, and Chase Thomas who scored 14 points. Sheats scored a full 41.5% of Denton's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Odihiri, who scored five points.
This is the second loss in a row for Denton and nudges their season record down to 10-12. As for Summer Creek, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Denton will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Ryan at 2:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Summer Creek won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Rock Hill at 12:30 p.m. on December 30th. Rock Hill has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 731 points over their last 11 contests.
