Chesterfield hasn't had much luck against Cheraw recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Golden Rams will venture away from home to challenge the Braves at 7:30 p.m. Chesterfield has given up an average of 30.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chesterfield's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Central on Friday. They were outmatched by the Eagles and fell 40-0. Having soared to a lofty 45 points in the game before, the Golden Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cheraw). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 51-21 win over Buford. With that victory, the Braves brought their scoring average up to 27.8 points per game.
Chesterfield better keep an eye on Kadin Thomas. He was instrumental in Cheraw's win, throwing for 151 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 47 yards and one score. That's the most passing touchdowns Thomas has posted since back in August. Derrick Isaac also helped with two TDs in total.
Cheraw was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 42.5 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 168.7.
Cheraw didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Demaurice James and Austin Adams. Adams also made five total tackles, which is notable because Cheraw is 4-2 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 1-2 otherwise.
The win made it two in a row for Cheraw and bumps their season record up to 5-4. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.5 points over those games. As for Chesterfield, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Chesterfield has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163.7 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Cheraw, though, as they've been averaging only 84.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Chesterfield was taken down by Cheraw 45-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Braves' Justyn Joint, who rushed for 228 yards and three scores while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Now that the Golden Rams know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
