Softball Recap: Edinburgh's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Edinburgh had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Greenwood Christian Academy on Monday. The Lancers blew past the Cougars 16-4. Considering the Lancers have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Chole Hancock made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenna Streeval, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Halliey Kinser also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Edinburgh always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .320.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Edinburgh, bringing their record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edinburgh will challenge Southwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers are facing the Rebels at the right time seeing as the Rebels are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, they will take on Perry Meridian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
