Even though the Highland Tech Rams have not done well against the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Highland Tech walked away with a 48-39 win over Bessemer City. The score was all tied up 25-25 at the break, but Highland Tech was the better team in the second half.
Elijah Sherrill was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Elijah Whitted was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Bessemer City still got an impressive performance from Juquorian Friday, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Friday scored 15 or more points.
Highland Tech's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Bessemer City, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.
Highland Tech's road trip will continue as they head out to face Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Thomas Jefferson is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for Bessemer City, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against East Gaston at 7:30 p.m. East Gaston is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 66.3 points per game.
