The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks will square off against the Show Low Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Yuma Catholic comes in on ten and Show Low on seven.
Yuma Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Valley Christian, sneaking past 4-3.
Cherish Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Faith Donley, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Autumn Moffatt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Show Low never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Winslow as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won 20 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Riley Heuett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Show Low got a massive performance out of Addisyn Clark, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Aspyn Clark, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Show Low was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Show Low's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Yuma Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 24-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Yuma Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like Show Low struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
