The West Lafayette Red Devils will face off against the Logansport Berries at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. West Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
West Lafayette is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Tri-County on Wednesday. They fell 5-1 to the Cavaliers.
Molly Mansfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, West Lafayette saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Fowler, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Logansport entered their tilt with Benton Central on Saturday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They never let the Bison get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Berries might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Logansport also got a great performance from Maddy Baumgardner as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Baumgardner a new career-high.
At the plate, Natalee Packard was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gracie Risley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and five RBI.
Logansport hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive contests.
Logansport's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for West Lafayette, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Both West Lafayette and Logansport just can't seem to miss. The Red Devils have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Logansport struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Lafayette couldn't quite finish off Logansport in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Will the Red Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
