The Delphi Community Oracles are taking a road trip to take on the Rossville Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Delphi Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Delphi Community came out on top against Eastern on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Oracles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Comets.
Mairi Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight earned runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kylynn Spitznagle was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Emma Draper was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Rossville had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Comets a 23-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Avery Layton made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Layton was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other pitching news, Jillian Morris looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Autumn Paschal was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie McDonald, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Rossville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern only posted an OBP of .167.
Rossville pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Delphi Community, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Delphi Community has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Rossville struggles in that department as they've averaged .489. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Delphi Community suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Rossville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Oracles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
