The Windber Ramblers will square off against the Shade Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Windber came out on top against Conemaugh Township on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 14-run second inning. The Ramblers put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 16-1 victory. Considering the Ramblers have won nine matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Windber got a massive performance out of Riley Mock, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most hits Mock has posted since back in March. Cameron Mash was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Windber was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. Their batting average was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .400 that Conemaugh Township posted.
Meanwhile, Shade waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 15-10.
Payton Maddy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Maddy was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Patty Kovacs was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Hayden Maddy, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Shade's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Windber, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Windber has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. However, it's not like Shade struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Windber beat Shade 12-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Ramblers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
