The Fremont Silverwolves will take on the Davis Darts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fremont has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with seven straight defeats, while Davis will come in with three straight victories.
Last Friday, Fremont came up short against Layton and fell 58-45. While losing is never fun, the Silverwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Lancers are ranked eighth).
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Easton Duft and Karter Miller. Miller had a great game and dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. Meanwhile, Duft did his best for the losing side, putting up seven points.
Meanwhile, Davis' game on Friday was all tied up 30-30 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Weber, sneaking past 66-63.
Davis' win came from a few key players Fremont will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was JT Turley, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Coleman Atwater, who posted 15 points and five steals.
Davis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.
Davis pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fremont has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Davis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Fremont lost to Davis at home by a decisive 69-51 margin when the teams last played on January 10th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Atwater, who went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 33 points. Now that Fremont knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
