Willows hasn't had much luck against Colusa recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Honkers will look to defend their home field against the RedHawks at 4:00 p.m.
Willows is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Durham. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Honkers have suffered since March 4th.
Willows saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charles Squier, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Blake Lerstang, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colusa). Everything went their way against Paradise on Thursday as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the RedHawks.
Juan Ramirez tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mason Gutierrez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Franco, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Colusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paradise only posted an OBP of .263.
Willows' loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Colusa, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-15.
Colusa's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Willows has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Colusa, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Willows keep running through batters, or will the RedHawks buck the trend?
