One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Riggs got a 34 - 7 win over Huron last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Garrett Stout. Stout finished up with 370 yards passing and two rushing touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Stout as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Canton and Beresford, 3rd and 15th in the power rankings, respectively. Canton claimed a 28 - 14 victory over Beresford. Canton received a modest one-position bump in the power rankings afterwards; Beresford stayed put at 15th.
No Stoppin 'Em
Washington not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Mitchell in every quarter. Washington put the hurt on Mitchell with a conclusive 49 - 12 victory. The Mitchell defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 32 points per game), and Washington took advantage of that. The combined 61-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Brandon Valley (8th in the power rankings) and Roosevelt (1st). This will be the second consecutive road game for Roosevelt. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both Brandon Valley and Roosevelt put up some lofty point totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they play one another this week.
