The Monte Vista Pirates will be playing at home against the Center Vikings at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monte Vista will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Monte Vista strolled past the Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 46-30.
Monte Vista found their leader in underclassman Heysenny Beltran, who scored 12 points along with five steals. Beltran is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zariah Archuleta, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Center put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on South Park with a sharp 49-27 win. With Center ahead 33-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
It was another big night for Alicia Rios, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ximena Miranda, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Monte Vista pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Center, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Monte Vista have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Center struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Monte Vista beat the Vikings 48-37 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Monte Vista repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
