After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Leesburg, the Lecanto Panthers were happy to have found some success on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-34 victory over Belleview. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Lecanto also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Lecanto was led to victory by Ijyana Edwards and Bryleigh Florio. Edwards scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Florio scored 19 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Edwards also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Christensen, who scored six points.
Aaliyah Armbrister and Briyanna Miles certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Armbrister dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Miles scored 15 points along with three steals. Armbrister is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Albanis Mogollon, who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lecanto has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Belleview, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lecanto on the road again on Tuesday and play against Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Nature Coast Tech is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. As for Belleview, they will head out on the road to challenge West Port at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Port focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday.
