The Awaken Christian Lions won the last time they faced the Laughlin Cougars, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Awaken Christian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 victory over the Cougars.
Phoenix Sharp continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Awaken Christian's points. Alahna Payne was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Laughlin's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Daishanae Jackson, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Valeria Quintero who scored 15 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Quintero scored 15 or more points.
Awaken Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Laughlin, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-11.
Awaken Christian will square off against the Centurions at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Laughlin, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Needles is coming into the match hot, having won their last 20 games.
