In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. Among the action were the efforts of Marietta's junior Harrison Bailey, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.
Can't Touch This
Rome's 35 - 6 win over Kell last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Jamious Griffin. Griffin earned three touchdowns and 236 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Griffin as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Marietta and Grayson, 10th and 2nd in the power rankings, respectively. Victory was within reach, but Marietta ultimately lost 38 - 31 to Grayson. The quarterback felt the defeat most of all -- literally. After eight sacks, he is probably hoping to get a little more protection in the future.
Movin on Up
It was onward and upward for Rockmart this week as the team hoisted itself up ten places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. It had a great defensive game, holding Heard County to zero points to set up the 33 - 0 win. The MaxPreps rankings were spot on as they projected Rockmart as the clear winner.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
Blessed Trinity was the better team in every quarter against Benedictine last week and consequently the better team overall. Blessed Trinity took its contest against Benedictine by a conclusive 38 - 7 score. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Steele Chambers, who brought his A game into the contest. He rushed for 151 yards and four touchdowns. With four consecutive wins, Blessed Trinity boasts the longest winning streak of any team in the rankings.
