The Weeki Wachee Hornets's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They strolled past Hernando with points to spare, taking the game 48-29. Given Weeki Wachee's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Hernando is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Weeki Wachee found their leader in underclassman Marlee Schumacher, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Atwater, who scored 15 points.
Despite the loss, Hernando still got an impressive performance from Kayla Holloman, who scored 14 points. Ayana Kincade was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Weeki Wachee's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Hernando, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Lecanto at 8:00 p.m. on January 10th. As for Hernando, they will challenge Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
