The Ridgeline Riverhawks are on the road again on Friday and play against the Monterey Plainsmen at 1:30 p.m. on December 8th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Ridgeline beat Lone Peak 46-42. Given Ridgeline's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Lone Peak is ranked 28th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Emilee Skinner was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 22 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Ridgeline's points. Elise Livingston was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Monterey has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Hendrickson with a sharp 72-51 win on Saturday. The win was nothing new for Monterey as they're now sitting on four straight.
It was another big night for Aaliyah Chavez, who shot 8-for-15 from long range and dropped a double-double on 46 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was her 15th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ambrosia Cole, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds.
Ridgeline pushed their record up to 3-0 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Monterey, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Ridgeline have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Monterey struggles in that department as they've been even better at 30.6 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
