The Point Pleasant Big Blacks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 42-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hoover. While losing is never fun, Point Pleasant can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while the Huskies are ranked 92nd).
Several Big Blacks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was McKenna Young, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Katelynn Martin, who scored ten points.
Hoover's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Natilee Hill, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayva Veltri, who scored 15 points.
Point Pleasant has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Hoover, they pushed their record up to 5-11 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Point Pleasant won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tide at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Hoover, they will head out on the road to challenge the Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Wayne knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 contests -- so hopefully the Huskies like a good challenge.
