A feisty cat fight will be fought as Durant Cougars duke it out with Plant Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Plant took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Durant, who comes in off a win.
Durant had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt East Bay on Thursday. Durant blew past East Bay 12-5. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their two-run performance the game before.
Alina Price made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Price was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one double.
In other batting news, Lennox Ullrich was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Carly Rivera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Plant was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against Bloomingdale, falling 7-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Gigi Cozzens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Plant saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kate Compton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Compton is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Plant's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Durant, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything went Durant's way against Plant in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Durant made off with a 13-7 victory. Does Durant have another victory up their sleeve, or will Plant turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
