Downingtown West is 9-1 against Coatesville since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Whippets will head out to challenge the Red Raiders at 6:45 p.m. Downingtown West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Downingtown West easily dispatched Bishop Shanahan on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Whippets fell just short of East by a score of 3-1 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Whippets couldn't push the score so high this time.
Addison Carter was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
Coatesville came out on top against Henderson on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fifth inning. The Red Raiders blew past the Warriors 11-1. Considering the Red Raiders have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Gracelynn Landis spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Coatesville got a massive performance out of Jillian Wimmer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Sherry, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coatesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henderson only posted an OBP of .167.
Coatesville's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Downingtown West, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Downingtown West has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Coatesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Downingtown West skirted past Coatesville 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Whippets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
