Wynford extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-4 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Upper Sandusky Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Wednesday.
Landon Miller was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Brayden Campbell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Upper Sandusky, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.
On Upper Sandusky's side, Justin Heilman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Heilman has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Upper Sandusky let Kaleb Francis and Kasen Gottfried run wild. Francis went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI, while Gottfried went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Francis has posted since back in April of 2024.
Looking ahead, Wynford will challenge Carey at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Upper Sandusky, they will take on Edison at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 3.7, the Chargers 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
