The Campo Verde Coyotes struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Gilbert Tigers had 1500% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Campo Verde took a 55-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gilbert. Campo Verde lost against Gilbert in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 51-49 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Campo Verde lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kelsey Watts. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Watts scored a full 41.9% of Campo Verde's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizzy Clark, who scored 4 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Gilbert's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aspen McClees, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. The game was McClees' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Evenson, who scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Campo Verde's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Gilbert, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Campo Verde will look to defend their home court on Monday against Westview at 7:00 p.m. As for Gilbert, they will head out on the road to face off against Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mesquite will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
