The Uintah Utes are taking a road trip to challenge the Springville Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Uintah has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Uintah easily dispatched Provo on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Uintah fell just short of Orem by a score of 11-9 on Thursday. It was the first time this season that the Utes let down their fans at home.
Uintah got a good showing from Abbie Davis, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Davis has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Uintah got a massive performance out of Rylee Miller, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Olson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Even though they lost, Uintah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Springville was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They fell 5-2 to Spanish Fork. The contest marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Springville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allyx Haveron, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Haveron is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
With the loss, Springville broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-3. As for Uintah, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Uintah hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Springville struggles in that department as they've averaged .391. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Uintah suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Springville in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can Uintah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
