After a string of three wins, the Columbia Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were dealt a 74-45 loss at the hands of Bear Grass Charter. Columbia was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played on January 12th.
Columbia's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Sawyer, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Ariyeh Spencer who scored 17 points along with six assists and three steals. Sawyer is crushing the block category: he's posted at least five every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Holloway, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Columbia now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Bear Grass Charter, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia will square off against the Dolphins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ocracoke knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully the Wildcats likes a good challenge. As for Bear Grass Charter, they will head out on the road to square off against the Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
