Baseball Recap: Duchesne Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Duchesne lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Summit Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Eagles blew past the Bears 13-3 on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Kyson Giles and Caleb Thompson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Giles struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Thompson pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Giles went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Thompson went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Giles has become a key player for Duchesne: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Rylann Butler and Connor Karren did most of the damage at the plate: Butler went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Karren went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Duchesne is undefeated when Butler posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nashden Goodliffe, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Duchesne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Duchesne pushed their record up to 10-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Summit Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Duchesne will venture away from home to challenge San Juan at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Summit Academy, they will take on American Leadership Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
