The Lamar Vikings lost against the Haltom Buffalos back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The game between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Lamar falling 69-51. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while Haltom is ranked 177th).
Haltom got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kuol Atak out in front who scored 25 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Atak's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Baron Smith jr was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Lamar now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Haltom, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-5.
Lamar will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Martin at 2:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Martin will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Haltom and Midlothian Heritage will round out the year against one another at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at.
