Oak Ridge and Whitney are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Trojans will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Oak Ridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Capuchino get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Trojans have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Oak Ridge got a great performance from Ellison Schroeder as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emery Glaser, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Paratore, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Oak Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capuchino only posted a batting average of .118.
Meanwhile, Whitney faced Clovis North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Broncos 2-1. Two seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Taylor Cordell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emma Rabe was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Oak Ridge's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Whitney, their win bumped their record up to 24-9.
Oak Ridge came up short against Whitney when the teams last played back in April, falling 5-1. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
