3A Region 4 recap September 10, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Josh Williams and Jerrick Orr connected against Amory. The connection was good for 72 yards, the longest such play in 3A Region 4 this season.
Winona moved up to 207 from 255 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Eupora 49-14.
Wesley Ross and Armon Gregory gave South Pontotoc a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Ross threw for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Gregory ran for 114 yards. Ross also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Ross and Gregory gave the Cougars a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.
He went 11-21 with 1 interceptions.
Gregory was the best running back in the league this week.
Dakota Cruber provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Nettleton lost to East Webster. He completed 19 passes for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 49 yards. Cruber's key target this week was Jeremy Cook, who caught 5 passes for 110 yards.
Ross put up the best numbers through the air as South Pontotoc bested Mantachie. Ross' favorite target this week was Gregory, who caught 5 passes for 100 yards.
Cook was the best receiver in 3A Region 4 this week as the Tigers fell to the Wolverines. Levert Jernigan helped Nettleton's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 96 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Nettleton's Cruber and Jernigan have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Cruber has thrown for 865 yards this season, while Jernigan has 22 catches for 363 yards. Roger Chism's team's Gregory leads the league in rushing yards with 245.
The Cougars and the Mustangs played the closest game in the league this week, with the Cougars eventually emerging with a 35-34 victory. Ross during the win.
