Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Western Christian). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 82-79 victory over the Woodcrest Christian Royals on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Fighting Lancers considering their 18-point performance the game before.
Western Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brian Wallace, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 29 points. Wallace has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Kevin Xiong was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds.
Riley Downs and Noah Milton certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Downs went 8 of 20 en route to 29 points and six assists, while Milton dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards. That's the most points Downs has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cleveland Stoudenmire, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.
With the victory, Western Christian broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-15. As for Woodcrest Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.
Western Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 76-33 loss against San Gabriel Academy on the 21st. As for Woodcrest Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-24 defeat against Linfield Christian on the 21st.
