Basketball Recap: Central Drops Highest Score of Season Against Centennial

Central scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 93-83 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Centennial Eagles. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (64), the Cobras still had to take the loss.

Several Cobras players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joseph Gayle, who went 12 of 25 on his way to 33 points. That was a full 39.8% of Central's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Maxon, who shot 5-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centennial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeremy Felix, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 28 points. Felix's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Felix Buroz was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight assists and six boards.

Central moved to 7-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Centennial, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-5.

Central will head out to square off against Wellington at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Centennial, they will square off against John Carroll Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
