The Nederland Panthers's game on Wednesday was all tied up 16-16 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Union Colony Prep 34-28. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Nederland in their matchups with Union Colony Prep: they've now lost three in a row.
Defeat or not, Nederland got some senior leadership from Rick Fortunato and Gavin Dillon. Fortunato scored ten points, while Dillon. scored seven points.
Nederland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union Colony Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josiah Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tanner Sarchet, who scored seven points along with five steals.
Nederland's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Union Colony Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-8 record this season.
Nederland will head out on the road to face off against Poudre Community Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Poudre Community Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Nederland likes a good challenge. As for Union Colony Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bishop Machebeuf at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Machebeuf will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
