Monterey is 9-1 against the Westerners since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Monterey Plainsmen will be playing at home against the Lubbock Westerners at 6:00 p.m. Monterey has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,764 points over their last 23 games.
Monterey stacked a 17th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They really took it to Cooper for the full four quarters, racking up a 102-35 win on the road. Monterey's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Monterey relied on the efforts of Ambrosia Cole, who scored 34 points along with six rebounds and five assists, and Aaliyah Chavez, who dropped a triple-double on 39 points, 19 rebounds, and 14 assists. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Chavez has scored at least a third of Monterey's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Luna, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Lubbock's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 60-33 loss at the hands of Wylie. While losing is never fun, Lubbock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 603rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 169th).
Monterey is on a roll lately: they've won 22 of their last 23 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season. As for Lubbock, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-20.
Everything came up roses for Monterey against the Westerners in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 89-38 victory. With Monterey ahead 49-19 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
