Otis had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Caliche Buffaloes on Wednesday as they made off with a 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
JJ Ward and Gavin Price made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Ward struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Price tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Ward has posted since April 1st. At bat, Ward got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Price went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Otis got a massive performance out of Tayte Smith, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Smith is becoming a predictor of the Bulldogs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Paxton Davis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Otis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caliche only posted an OBP of .333.
The victory made it two in a row for Otis and bumps their season record up to 15-5. As for Caliche, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13.
Looking ahead, Otis will square off against Haxtun at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Caliche does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
