In this week's postseason power rankings action, one team rose to the occasion while another fell hard. That and more in this week's report.
Welcome
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Waukon last week (their 8th in a row). It took its game against Union by a confident 40 - 11 score. 40 is shaping up to be Waukon's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over North Fayette Valley the game before. The victory also thrust Waukon into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 24th spot.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Ankeny Centennial and Southeast Polk, 13th and 26th in the MaxPreps state rankings, respectively. Ankeny Centennial was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as it fell 21 - 17 to Southeast Polk. As a result, Ankeny Centennial fell nine positions in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
West Branch claimed most-improved honors this week by climbing the power ranking ladder nine rungs after its game against Osage. West Branch picked up a decisive 'W' against Osage, finishing up at 56 - 14. West Branch did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Dowling Catholic (6th in the power rankings) and Valley (3rd). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Both the Valley and Dowling Catholic defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 8.07 ppg and 7.73 ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
