Compass Academy is on a seven-game streak of home losses, the Coyotes a 17-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. Compass Academy will take on the Tornillo Coyotes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Tuesday, Compass Academy took a serious blow against the Cranes, falling 68-36. While losing is never fun, Compass Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1522nd, while the Cranes are ranked 622nd).
Despite the loss, Compass Academy saw an underclassman step up: Peyton Stewart scored seven points along with 15 rebounds and three blocks. Sareyah Hinojoz was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Even though they lost, Compass Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. This was only their 13th loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Tornillo was beaten by the Bucks 75-20 on Tuesday. Tornillo has struggled against the Bucks recently, as their match on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Compass Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Tornillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-21.
Compass Academy strolled past the Coyotes in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 45-28. Does Compass Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Coyotes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
