The New West Charter Eagles had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 63-56 win over Horace Mann UCLA Community. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Liam Hakimi was his usual excellent self, scoring 42 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of New West Charter's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Beck O'Hara, who scored nine points.
New West Charter has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Horace Mann UCLA Community, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
New West Charter will be playing in front of their home fans against Math & Science College Preparatory at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Math & Science College Preparatory's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests. Horace Mann UCLA Community's road trip will continue as they head out to face Middle College at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Middle College focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 37 last Saturday.
