The Las Lomas Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Clayton Valley Charter by a score of 68-66. While losing is never fun, Las Lomas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Clayton Valley Charter is ranked 83rd).
When it comes to explaining why Las Lomas lost, one person who can't be blamed is Xayne Mojadiddi. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. Mojadiddi is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Julian Vaucher was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Clayton Valley Charter found their leader in underclassman Vince Ellis, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ellis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Mcclane, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Las Lomas bumped their record down to 8-10 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Clayton Valley Charter, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Las Lomas will be playing at home against Mt. Diablo at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Clayton Valley Charter, they will head out on the road to challenge Miramonte at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Miramonte knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Clayton Valley Charter likes a good challenge.
