Downtown Magnets had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took down the Sylmar Spartans 78-59 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Suns sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Patrick Lei was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 26 points and 17 boards. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Justin Huang, who posted 16 points.
Downtown Magnets was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sylmar only five assists.
Sylmar's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tim Tanner, who scored 16 points and eight rebounds. Those eight boards gave Tanner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Galvez, who earned 18 points and five rebounds.
Downtown Magnets' win bumped their record up to 24-7. As for Sylmar, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-19.
Coming up, Downtown Magnets will take on Sierra Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Downtown Magnets has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. Sylmar does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
