The Horizon Huskies won the last time they faced the Desert Mountain Wolves, and things went their way on Friday too. Horizon took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 55-23 victory over Desert Mountain. Given Horizon's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Desert Mountain is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Horizon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Brown, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Paisy Perkins, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Desert Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Adyson Lundberg scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Lundberg posted two or more blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Desert Mountain struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Horizon racked up 14 assists.
Horizon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Desert Mountain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-18.
Horizon and Chaparral will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Chaparral is coming into the matchup with three straight losses at home, meaning Horizon will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. Desert Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
