After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McEachern, the Griffin Bears were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 54-46 victory over Westside. Given Griffin's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Westside is ranked 341st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Camiya Starks was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with nine steals and five assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Naima Foster, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds.
Westside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Talton, who scored 22 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Frazier, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Westside struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Griffin racked up 13 assists.
Griffin pushed their record up to 10-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Westside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Griffin will be playing in front of their home fans against West Laurens at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westside won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Northeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Tuesday.
