The Gunnison Valley Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the North Sevier Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gunnison Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Gunnison Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Monticello 19-2 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Buckaroo recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Landry Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Gunnison Valley got a massive performance out of Peyton Sanders, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Sanders has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Porter Comin, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Gunnison Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, North Sevier was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 9-4 to Grand County.
North Sevier saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Jensen, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Gunnison Valley pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for North Sevier, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gunnison Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Sevier struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gunnison Valley took their win against North Sevier in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
