Mabel-Canton is on a seven-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Schaeffer Academy a five-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Mabel-Canton Cougars will be playing at home against the Schaeffer Academy Lions at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Mabel-Canton fell victim to Goodhue and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

Mabel-Canton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Underbakke, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Underbakke has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, Schaeffer Academy scored the most runs they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons by a score of 8-6.
Grady Boldt was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. Boldt was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Those runs were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Payton Gora and Micah Ekbom did some serious damage despite the final result: Gora got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Ekbom went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That run was Gora's first of the season.
Schaeffer Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Mabel-Canton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Mabel-Canton's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Schaeffer Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mabel-Canton continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Mabel-Canton's way against Schaeffer Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Mabel-Canton made off with a 12-0 victory. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
